The Challenge

Schools and education facilities rely on ventilation and heat pump systems to maintain comfortable and healthy indoor environments, but ongoing maintenance is often constrained by limited budgets and restricted access during term time.

In addition to routine servicing, many sites experience control-related issues where systems are not operating as originally designed. This can lead to poor air quality, inefficient heat pump operation, increased energy consumption, and unnecessary wear on plant. Planned maintenance and controls optimisation must therefore be carefully delivered within holiday periods to avoid disruption to teaching.

What We Deliver

Technical Scope:

  • Planned maintenance of AHUs, heat recovery units, and Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) systems
  • Review and optimisation of control strategies to ensure systems operate as designed
  • Internal cleaning, filter replacement, and anti-bacterial treatment of ventilation equipment
  • Inspection of mechanical and controls components across ventilation and heat pump systems

Key Technical Activities:

  • Deep cleaning of AHUs including coil cleaning, internal vacuuming, and enclosure checks
  • Replacement and treatment of filters to maintain indoor air quality
  • Inspection and servicing of ASHP systems, including operational checks and performance verification
  • Inspection and adjustment of control parameters such as time schedules, setpoints, and plant sequencing
  • Identification and correction of control issues causing inefficient heat pump operation or unnecessary runtime
  • Maintenance of heat recovery and wall-mounted ventilation units across classrooms and communal areas
  • Inspection and reporting of component and control performance to highlight faults and optimisation opportunities
  • Delivery of works during school holidays to ensure zero disruption to site operations

Results

✓ Improved Indoor Air Quality: Cleaned systems and correctly operating controls deliver consistent ventilation performance

✓ Optimised Heat Pump Operation: ASHP systems run efficiently and in line with design intent

✓ Reduced Energy Costs: Improved control strategies and maintenance reduce unnecessary energy usage

✓ Increased Reliability: Reduced strain on both ventilation and heat pump systems extends equipment lifespan

✓ Operational Readiness: All systems prepared, tested, and fully functional ahead of each term
