The Challenge
The Stratford Energy Centre required a complete end-to-end controls solution from ground zero: a custom control panel, comprehensive field wiring, and a fully integrated control strategy for the heat pump system serving the Olympic Park development. The project demanded coordination across panel fabrication, field installation, software development, and commissioning, with tight specification adherence to the Equans design and no room for operational disruption.
What We Delivered
Control Panel Design & Build
- Developed full I/O points list and panel design to Equans specification
- Fabricated Form 2 Type 2 IP65 MCC panel (~1600mm H × 1800mm W × 400mm D) housing MCBs, relays, and HOA switches
- Integrated Niagara 4 Tridium JACE 8000 controller, iSMA-B-MAC-Series modules, PNOZ safety relay, and 8-way ethernet switch
- Delivered two sets of GA drawings and O&M manuals
- Site acceptance testing included
Controls Cable Installation & Testing:
- Developed controls cable schedule per Equans specification
- Installed all controls cables and new/existing containment as required
- Terminated all field instrumentation back to the MCC
- Performed dry testing of all instrumentation connections
Software Development & Commissioning
- Developed Niagara N4 control software aligned with the system designer's philosophy and Description of Operation
- Generated I/O points list, trunk/COM port network registers, and control logic
- Completed design review meetings with Equans and iteratively refined strategy based on feedback
- Performed comprehensive bench testing of COM port configuration, I/O mapping, equipment points, pump and meter integration, and functional tests by section
- Set up history and alarm extensions per Des-Op (noted for remote connection integration)
- Generated graphical HMI display for commissioning
Onsite Commissioning:
- Wiring installation reviews and network topology validation
- Main JACE controller commissioning with I/O and integration verification
- Point-to-point testing and temperature sensor initialization
- Circulation pump setup and system flow rate verification
- Final temperature sensor calibration and equipment commissioning
- Full commissioning documentation and operator handover
